FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Phase 1 - Introduction:
What is Solar Energy?
Solar energy is the energy that is derived from the sun’s radiation. It is a renewable and clean source of energy that can be used for various purposes.
How do Solar Panels work?
Solar panels work by capturing the sun’s energy and converting it into electricity. They are made up of photovoltaic cells, which convert sunlight into DC electricity. An inverter then converts the DC electricity into AC electricity, which can be used to power homes and businesses.
What are the benefits of using solar energy?
Solar energy is a renewable and clean source of energy that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy costs. It can also provide energy independence and increase the value of your property.
How much do solar panels cost?
The cost of solar panels can vary depending on the size of the system and the location.
How long do solar panels last?
Most solar panels have a lifespan of 25-30 years. However, some manufacturers offer warranties that last up to 25 years.
Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes, solar panels can still produce electricity on cloudy days. However, their efficiency may be reduced compared to sunny days.
How much energy can solar panels produce?
The amount of energy that solar panels can produce depends on several factors, including the size of the system, the location, and the amount of sunlight available. On average, a 10 kW solar panel system can produce about 14,000 kWh of electricity per year.
Can solar panels be installed on any roof?
Solar panels can be installed on most types of roofs, including flat, sloped, and metal roofs. However, the angle and orientation of the roof can affect the efficiency of the solar panel system.
Are there any incentives for installing solar panels?
Yes, there are several incentives available for installing solar panels, including federal tax credits, state and local rebates, and net metering programs.
Phase 2 - As a Homeowner:
What happens if I move?
Hey, we got you. Please sit back and relax because it’s pretty simple, and we go through this process all the time. Everything is pretty simple; we have a concierge service that can facilitate the entire process. You move out, the next homeowner moves in, solar docs get transferred, and that’s it. Sun goes up, bills go down, a win-win solution, and everyone gets happy.
What if I want to sell the house?
Studies show that homes with solar not only sell for more but also sell 17–27% faster in the marketplace. Recent data indicates that since 2020, families have been moving to new homes more often compared to past decades, and the average suburban Texan may look for a new place every 5–9 years. Over half of the population moves within 5–10 years.
Is it Free?
No, solar is not free. Be careful—many companies advertise misleading “no cost” offers, often from out of state, spreading misinformation. Our duty is to share honest, factual information. Solar is an intelligent investment, and most people choose to pay monthly.
Reminder: At SunStar Solutions, we cover all upfront charges. This means no down payments or money out of pocket for homeowners.
Why traditional power cost more?
Traditional power will always cost more for many reasons:
  • No price security
  • High-risk markets due to fluctuating oil, natural gas, coal, and nuclear prices
  • An outdated distribution model that relies on 100+ year-old infrastructure
How much is it going to cost me?
Less. Solar will cost you less compared to renting power from the utility company. Every month, the savings get bigger as you pay a rate that includes money protection instead of taking the high risk of the power companies raising the rates on you. Every house is different, and our job as your local provider is to give you the best possible rates for our Texas people.Keep in mind, while some of these small or out-of-state companies might want to charge upfront fees, which could cost you a lot of money, here at SunStar Solutions, we take pride in reminding you that we take care of all the upfront charges, which means will NOT require a down payment or money out of pocket from homeowners.
What can go wrong?
The Texas Census Institute estimates that 5 million people moved to Texas in the last decade. With this growth, some solar companies don’t know the Texas market well enough to size your system correctly, which can result in “double bills.”
Always speak to a local expert who will perform a consumption validation to ensure you get the right system. At SunStar Solutions, this service is complimentary and included in every consultation.
What happens to my roof?
We will not only cover your entire solar system, but we will also ensure everything is good with the roof. We check all the boxes and inspect the property before installing the system. If it doesn’t pass inspection, SunStar Solutions reserves the right to reject your project until your property is in adequate condition so we can perform our job.SunStar Solutions warrants to every single homeowner that any roof penetrations made for the system shall be utterly weather-tight for ten (10) years from the date of commencement of the Installation.
What if they brake?
Do I have to replace them?
You might be asking yourself, how long do they last.
If you Google this question quickly, you will learn from countless sources that the industry standard for most solar panel’s lifespans is 25 to 30 years. Most reputable manufacturers and higher quality companies like ours offer production warranties for 25 years.
What about the warranties?
As mentioned, we’ve got you covered for the next 25 years. You’ll receive a certificate with your system, giving you an extra layer of protection and peace of mind.
And here’s the cherry on top: SunStar Solutions includes a monitoring system and app at no extra charge, so you can check your production and consumption from your phone, anytime, 24/7.
Why doesn’t everybody have it then?
Eight or ten years ago, solar didn’t make as much sense. People needed to pay large amounts upfront, which stopped many from making the switch.
Be aware that some companies still operate with the same outdated model—but we don’t. Today, many incentives are available that weren’t back then. Also, utilities have been around for over 110 years, and every day they lose customers to solar, so they’re not eager for everyone to switch at once.
That’s why more people have upgraded to solar in the last four years than in the previous four decades combined. If your utility company doesn’t approve your application, we’ll inform you and stop the process at no cost to you.
Do I have to pay everything myself?
The Federal Government offers an enormous tax credit for installing solar, which can be used to offset taxes you owe when you file. Last year, a new bill was passed, and now, for the first time in history, they approved homeowners to potentially receive the highest amount of incentives, which is currently 30% of your total project costs, including installation.
This Tax Credit is ending soon. (December 31 of 2025). You still can take advantage of this incentive.
Phase 3 - Maintenance and Storms:
How can I maintain my solar panel system?
Solar panel systems require very little maintenance, but they should be inspected and cleaned regularly to ensure maximum efficiency. It is also important to have a professional inspect the system periodically to check for any issues.
What happens when there is a hailstorm?
Modern solar panels are designed and tested to withstand hail up to 1 inch (25 mm) in diameter, falling at speeds of up to 50 mph. Most panels installed today are extremely durable and resist impact. However, severe hail can occasionally cause damage. If this happens, your homeowner’s insurance typically covers repair or replacement costs.
What happens in an “Act of God” event?
Events like hurricanes, tornadoes, or severe storms are generally considered “Acts of God.” In most cases, damage from these events is covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. Always check your policy details to ensure you have adequate coverage for natural disasters. SunStar Solutions also offers warranties for materials and workmanship, giving you extra peace of mind.
